When Wii Fit was first announced, it was known as the Wii Health Pack. It was introduced in mid-September, 2006. It was intended as a "way to help get families exercising together." The name change to Wii Fit was announced at the Nintendo press conference at E3 on July 11, 2007 by Shigeru Miyamoto, one of the best known video game designers of all time, being the designer for Mario, Zelda and Donkey Kong. The Wii Fit was demonstrated at the conference.
Miyamoto designed Wii Fit with his own daily routines in mind. As he and his family became more health conscious, the idea came to him that others may enjoy a video game that helped them get started with healthy activities. He went on to design fitness-oriented games, and Wii Fit was born. The Wii Balance Board was under development for almost two years, and was inspired by the need of sumo wrestlers to weigh themselves with two scales. The rest of the Wii Fit game was developed by a full team for a year before the 2007 announcement.
There are several fun secrets throughout the Wii Fit game for those who care to try them. There are several things you can try. For example, to take the ultimate balance test, click on the Wii Balance Board in the background when you are on the initial exercise select screen with your Wii Fit bank in the front lower corner.
When jogging, keep your eyes peeled for hidden pictures of characters from the original Super Mario Brothers game. Check closely by bridges, inside tunnels and in other hidden places. And if you see a little dog run by you while jogging, run really fast to catch up with him and you will be rewarded with an alternate path!
If you touch your Mii with the cursor while you are on the calendar screen, you can see them react differently depending on where you tap them. While you are there, keep an eye on the background. It will change according to the season.
Be sure to play Wii Fit on your birthday or on April Fools Day to hear some interesting comments from the virtual Wii Board. If you stop paying attention to the game when the balance board is in view, he will take a nap.
For those who really enjoy Wii Fit and play it a lot, you will be able to unlock trophies! Twenty hours will bag you a bronze, while thirty will get you a silver and forty hours will win you the gold!
